The Sea (beginner’s duet)

The Sea (beginner’s piano duet)

This piece is ideal for those who have only had a few lessons, or can only read a few notes in the treble clef.

The accompaniment is suitable for a teacher, or more advanced player. It uses changes of harmonies in the harder part to underpin a fairly static upper part to achieve a feeling of movement.  In the centre, a storm builds up, (taken by the more advanced player) with plenty of scope for imagination…

This little piece teaches dynamics, interpretation, pauses, (listening to the other player) and counting. It uses one F sharp, and one E flat, giving scope for introducing sharps and flats and their relationship to each other (so many beginner pieces have either a flat or sharp in one piece). The B (next to middle C) written on the treble stave, has never presented any problems thus far!

I have used it with lots of beginners and in pupils’ concerts. They all love it… as do their parents!….   and so do I!!
