Reflections – piano duet  1’ 30”

A piece written for a pupil who had a GCSE music exam coming up and who had left it until three weeks before to prepare! There was no time to research what she could play, obtain the music, ascertain from her school teacher whether the standard would be acceptable,  and still give her time to learn something. She asked what we should do. My answer: “write something. NOW.” I asked her to come up with an idea. She played a few notes, I then set to, and wrote the piece in the lesson. She passed the exam too! It has subsequently been played and enjoyed by other pupils. 

There is plenty of scope for expressive playing, dynamic variation, balance, and players will encounter time changes as well as tempo changes.

This duet does not have to be confined to school-aged players though!
