Crucifixus (SATB choir and soloists)
Crucifixus duration: 12’
This piece is would be best sung at Easter. The beauty of the words “Pie Jesu Domine” and “Agnus Dei” often sung by a soloist are reflected in the melody, sometimes gentle, other times with a sorrowful tinge. They alternate with the words “Crucifixus.” The piece opens gently and gradually the chorus infiltrates with the word “Crucifixus”, powerfully reminding us of the crowds calling for Christ’s crucifixion.

This piece is would be best sung at Easter. It opens with a melodic phrase with the words “Pie Jesu Domine” sung by a soloist and these words, along with “Agnus Dei” alternate with the words “Crucifixus.” The beauty of the words of “Agnus Dei” and “Pie Jesu Domine” are reflected in the melody, sometimes gentle, other times with a sorrowful tinge. Gradually the chorus infiltrates with the word “Crucifixus”, reminding us of the crowds calling for Christ’s crucifixion as it gains momentum with a sinisterly steady pulse, reaching ff. The various crucifixus sections alternate with further lyrics of the “Agnus Dei” which uses combination of text in both Latin and English.
