Trees
Trees, for S A T/B choir and two soprano (or soprano and mezzo) soloists and flute is a setting of one of my poems. The poem and music describe many of the lovely trees found here in Britain, both wild and cultivated.
The main theme tune is used in either its original or a varied form for each of the different trees, and is extended to form “mini sections” within the whole piece. We find descriptions of holly in winter woods, (an aeolian variation), warm flat keys depicting ripe fruited orchards, glorious bird song among the leaves in spring, as well as the stark beauty of the winter tree, to name just some. Many of these sections are linked, or have accompaniment of “flute flurrys”, which although similar, depict different things, from twirling autumn leaves, the breeze in the canopy, to water where the willows grow.
A piece to draw attention to our beautiful trees… which fits beautifully with the trend towards encouraging people to look after nature, and to appreciate what is around us, in even the simplest things.

Description
Trees: a little story of how this piece came about…
My Dad has often enjoyed sketching trees, and I enjoy writing poetry. One day, after writing a poem when out, I came home to find he had also been sketching little trees n the edge of his newspaper! I liked them snd so he happily gave them to me! I decided to write a poem, whenever he produced a tree sketch… but one poem was not suited to those he had done, so I put in a request! He gave me the “requested tree” as a present, as well as another and they immediately inspired another poem, “Trees”. This, in turn inspired this piece…
