Rainbows of Human Emotion

Rainbow of Human Emotion (3’)

This was written during the 2020 “Lockdown” after a pupil shared, via the screen in a piano lesson, a painting she had done. I loved the bright, rainbow colours that she had used,  which were the colours representing the NHS during the Lockdown.  I wrote a poem about the piece (below) which in turn inspired the music.  Throughout the score, are written on the colours that are the inspiration behind the sections.

(This piece can be downloaded for free, as I do not wish to make anything for a piece that came about due to the sad circumstances of the time.)

Rainbows of Human Emotion

Red is the anger of our freedom taken:

Lives in turmoil: lockdown hate: lives torn apart:

Torn away…

Orange; a glow of new-found camaraderie.

Yellow; sunlight, that has crept into life;

Friendships, respect, and sheer human capacity for love….

Green is the hope that goes beyond the present:

It is the hope for a green and pleasant

Land to come: yet is here

With love – but a land without fear.

Blue is the freedom; although walls bind

We are free in spirit, free of mind…

Indigo is the depth of our strength.

Indigo is the riches we’ve gained.

Violet: for truth,

And the colour of “pansies, for thoughts”

….and remembrance of those who fought,

And lost.

White; a purity we could build, on trust.…
