Pacem (treble voice choir)

Pacem

Pacem was originally written as a piano piece, for a someone I knew, who needed some peace, but who was finding solace in playing the piano.  I wrote the piece as something simple, that could be played without too much difficulty by the player. As I wrote it, the word “pacem” kept singing in my head… so I wrote the words on the music, which lead me to arrange it for solo voice and subsequently for choir.

There are many ways to sing the word “pacem”: quietly and prayerfully, with tranquility, in an almost beseeching way… the music will hopefully suggest to the performers as they sing and play. At other places I have made suggestions. It must always be sung with a great deal of feeling and emotion behind the words.

The piece has a tranquil chord structure, with some poignant rising dissonances here and there.
