From The East
From the East – duration: 4’ 45”
This short Christmas piece for male voice choir takes us across the sand dunes, travelling through the night with the Maggi. Each of their gifts forms a tiny section within the piece: “I bring gold”, triumphant major chords, while the significance of the gift of myrrh is brought out with dissonant chords. There is an eastern flavour to the piece throughout and it ends with the words “Myrrh is mine, to take the sin, take our sin” with soft C sharp major chord.
There is a brief tenor solo that may well be taken by a competent choir member. A few of the second bass notes are very low, but at those parts in the score they are invited to sing with first basses if the singers do not have those notes in their range.
