A Dark Place 

(mezzo or contralto and piano)   5’

 

This is a wonderfully gloomy piece, with plenty of despair with a vocal range that would suit a voice with rich, dark colouring. 

 

“A dark place, where no one goes but Thee. A dark place, where shadows lurk and turmoil hides: where I venture not; that depth of the deep, where I dares’t not venture: that dark place, where no one goes but me, where there will be no colour found upon this land. A dark place, where no one goes but Thee. A dark place, where no one goes but me.”

 

 

Vocal range: is from G sharp below middle C, to E an octave above middle C, with main tessitura around B–F (either side of middle C.)
