Neil’s Theme (solo piano)

Neil’s Theme

A beautiful story is at the root of the creation of this piece….

In May, I was visited my my cousin, who has Down’s Syndrome. He had learnt the piano many years ago, and I took him to play our piano. Although he had not played for years, he sat down, and improvised some beautiful melody lines. I grabbed manuscript paper and wrote down the melodies as he played them. I played them back to him adding harmony: he commented, “very relaxing…” and so I turned these melodies into this gentle piano piece; and then created a video, using mostly images from our free and wild “lawn” where we sat, with my cousin on that day.

Although the theme was not directly “inspired by nature”, the whole atmosphere of the beautiful shared musical moment combined itself in my mind with the beautiful nature that we sat amongst which definitely had an influence on the music.

Credit and thanks to Neil Dawson, for creating the melodies.

Price: £2.50 (proceeds to The Down’s syndrome Association)
