Description

Waltz – Birthday Ode (2’)

This waltz was written on my 50th birthday. I had enjoyed the day, and decided to take a few more moments pleasure in playing the piano. This little piece was the result.

Waltz ‘Inspiration’ (3’)

This waltz was written in July 2018. It was sitting on my piano, half completed, when a pupil, who had lost her spark for enjoying playing was looking for something new. I suggested this… and she loved it! It really inspired her… so I was inspired to finish it: we inspired each other, hence the title!  She went on to play quite a lot of my music, and regained her love of playing. I am fond of this piece for this reason…

This is also available on my Spotify album “Tranquility“.

Waltz Romantique (1’ 20”)

The idea for this grew from another piece of mine. It is quite simply, a pretty piece – very melodic. This is also available on my Spotify album “Tranquility“.

Waltz Melancholie (2’ 15”)

This was composed in one sitting, at about midnight. I was enjoying improvising. It was written down from the remembered improvisation. It has a somewhat melancholy feeling at the opening – it’s in C minor. Part way through, it glows with warmth as it moves suddenly to A flat major. (Here, there needs to be a slight tenuto on the the D flats phrases, which really makes the melody sing, in a warm, yet “longing” way…)

This is also available on my Spotify album “Tranquility“.

Waltz (1′)

A short, light, pretty waltz, only one minute in length. This particular waltz had no particular inspiration, save that of the enjoyment of playing the piano. It has an almost balletic quality. It could be useful as an encore piece.
