Heatwave
Heatwave
This was written during the heatwave of July 2018. I had written a poem about it, and shared it with a friend, who remarked that writing a piece of music about it might represent more of a challenge. Next day, I decided to see what came to mind, and wrote this piece.
The constant semiquavers are the never ending heat. The heat where everything shimmers… they turn into rain, but as in the poem, it is short lived.
It’s interesting when playing, to make the semi quavers very metronomic in the heatwave sections, and ever so slightly less “restricted” in the rain section. Fascinating how the same rhythm can represent two contrasting ideas.
