Iron Horse on The Ice Trail
Iron Horse on The Ice Trail – Amir Dawoodbhai
This piece was inspired by the steam trains that often work the Settle & Carlisle line. This railway line is infamous among locomotive crews as ‘the long drag’ as it crosses the hilly terrain of the North Pennines and Yorkshire Dales. Despite the historic impracticalities of this route, it is undeniably one of the UK’s great rail journeys offering a spectacle that was one commonplace across this country. It is often said that steam locomotives are the closest thing built by humans that could be considered a living being, that is certainly true on this route as the iron horse works its way over the weather-beaten rooftop of England.
