Lullaby Jesu (SATB) –  (two versions: 7 minutes and also 3.5 mins)

 

This is a lyrical piece for SATB choir and piano accompaniment. 

The piece starts with the words “Lullaby Jesu” as we sing a lullaby to the infant Jesus. We then go to the plains with the shepherds, where the angels “are calling us, calling us…” There is a central section “Christus natus est” The piece ends as it begun, with final words referring to the angels…and a message to us… “do we still hear them?” 

 

There are two versions: one seven minutes in length, and the other just under three and a half. The longer version has more contrapuntal sections in the last third of the piece.
