Mid-Winter Harvest
Mid-Winter Harvest is a short piece for solo mezzo, and depicts the beauty of snowdrop flowers, blooming in the depths of winter. The music is atmospheric, contouring up icy, star-filled frozen night skies, chill winter winds, and amongst all that winter has to offer; a “harvest” to behold: the beauty and delicacy of the snowdrop flower.
The accompaniment is for piano, with glockenspiel and cello enhancing the feeling of iciness. A celebration of one of the most beautiful flowers… a Mid Winter Harvest indeed!
“A Harvest in Mid-Winter” was resentence that inspired the poem, which in turn, inspired the music. That beautiful sentence was within a letter from a friend, to whom I had sent a gift of two CDs of my music, thanking me for the gift:” a Mid-Winter Harvest!” I was instantly inspired by the beauty of the sentence to write the poem, with the music following shortly after.
