Music, My Angel (TTBB and Mezzo Solo)   duration: 5’

 

This piece is about Music being like an angel, our soul mate, and our help, at all times. 

It came about, after I was told a story by a pupil, whose daughter, living at the other side of the world, had not been in the best of health. I was told that whilst on holiday with family in Tasmania, they had visited some beautiful caves. The tour guide had said that he would put the lights out, so they may experience true darkness, and asked if any one would like to sing. Of course, no one volunteered! He put out the light, and this person’s caught, a shy quiet person, sang “Amazing Grace” in the darkness. I am told she has a beautiful voice. A lone voice in the darkness: music, soothing in the darkness; music helping someone in need – I found the story so touching, I immediately sat and wrote this piece…. 

 

It was originally for solo mezzo, but has now been arranged for TTBB and mezzo (this version) and also for TTBB (choir alone) as well as a version for SATB.
